What does the law say?

HSE (Health & Safety Executive) recommends that a salon should have good standard of ventilation (SR13) and suggests the use of extractor hood or downdraught table. It also clearly states that dust masks are not acceptable as a control (according to the COSHH Essentials SR13 guide on nail bars)

In some areas, it is mandatory to install salon extraction system if people are regularly exposed to hazardous substances such as hardeners, drying agents, curing agents, MMA (Methyl Methacrylate) and nail dust as well as other solvent based products.
